Story behind Cigarettes & Coffee

Cigarettes and Coffee

This song I wrote at 2-3 am in a Denny’s.  You could still smoke in them then.  So I sat there reflected on my life with my Cigarettes and Coffee. I did not like my living situation with my roommates and being alone.  It just poured out that mid-morning. I am sitting there really thinking what I am going to do with my life and then the backstreet boys came on the overhead radio. So that is where that verse came from.
I wanted to song to have a Nirvana sound in the beginning and then go into Folky Rock.  I used bar chords, which I hate.  So I thought the only way to get use to them is to write songs with them.  This is still a requested song today; I guess people just relate to it.

Cigarettes and Coffee

Verse 1
It is sometime in the mid morning
I sit alone with my cigarettes and coffee
The waitress fills my cup of life again
But, it does not wake me from my dream

Verse 2
I have no place where I call home
I have no place to lay my worries down
The place where I lay my head is not home
It is just another hole where I stay

Verse 3
Some pop sensation plays on the radio
There is no soul just cheep harmony
My guitar lays cold in my bed
While I listen to this shit and burn my lungs

Bridge
So fill my cup of coffee one more time
So I can stay awake in this nightmare
Light my cancer stick one more time
So I can breathe my last breath
I did not sign up for this life
But I will manage till my cup is empty
and my cigarette burns away
